Free Potassium Iodide To Be Distributed Near Limerick Nuclear Plant
The tablets are a safeguard against a potential catastrophe at the Limerick Generating Station.
POTTSTOWN, PA — Two public events will be held this summer to distribute free potassium iodide tablets to Montgomery County residents who live near the Limerick Generating Station.
The tablets can help protect the thyroid gland from the harmful effects of radioactive iodine that could be released during a catastrophic emergency at the Exelon plant.
The events will be held on June 27 and July 25 at Bethel Community Church of Pottstown. They will run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

All Montgomery County residents who live within 10 miles of the plant may receive the tablets. This distribution does not apply to businesses, who will be serviced at a later date.
Authorities noted that residents should not take the tablets unless they are told to do so by health officials. Not every accident and radiological emergency will involve radioactive iodine, officials said.
