Main Street To Close for Rail Crossing Repairs

Two-week project announced by PennDOT

PennDOT and Norfolk Southern Railroad will be closing Main Street and Arch Street in Royersford over a two- or three-week period to replace the railroad crossings, according to a PennDOT press release today.

Royersford Borough manager Michael Leonard said the announcement was a surprise to the borough.

"I just found out about it a little while ago," Leonard told Patch.

Construction is expected to start August 6 on Main Street. When Main Street is completed, the construction will move to the railroad crossing at 2nd Avenue and Arch Street. Leonard said the project is expected to take two to three weeks depending on the weather.

Leonard said there will be detours posted while the construction is going on.

"Fron Main Street you'll turn left on 2nd Avenue, right on Arch Street, then right on 1st Avenue," Leonard said.

Leoanrd said that PennDOT and Norfolk Southern wanted to complete Arch Street first, but Leonard "convinced them not to because of the school buses."

"Buses go down Main Street," Leonard said. "I didn't want them to have to go around the world."
