New Dollar Store Brings Value To Limerick

Store opened in June in Fox Ridge Shopping Center

Readers might remember VC Dollar from our "" series. Located in the former location of Time 2 Party, the store opened on June 19.

Owners Victor and Carmen Alicea, who live in the Blue Bell/Ambler area, chose the Limerick store because they liked the area and the community.

Victor Alicea spent 14 years working for a health-care communications company; his wife worked for Travelers' Aid in Philadelphia for 20 years.

Like many people over the last few years, Victor's job was eliminated, and he and his wife decided to start their own business.

The VC in VC Dollar stands for Victor and Carmen, although Alicea joked that people ask him if it stands for "very cheap" or "very cool".

Alicea said a dollar store seemed logical because "with the way the economy is, a dollar store is the best avenue to give people things the need at a good price."

Asked what sets VC Dollar apart, Alicea said, "We have quality jewelry and cosmetics, that other dollar stores don't have. We try to keep everything as close to a dollar as possible, we don't want to go up to the two-dollar mark if we don't have to."

The Aliceas have jumped right in and gotten involved with their new community, too.

The are sponsoring gift card raffles at Royersford's National Night Out on August 7 and were a sponsor for the Spring Ford Youth Athletic League baseball tournament at the beginning of July.

Alicea is looking forward to expanding his selection of items soon.

"Our goal is to have quality [items] but inexpensive," Alicea said.

We here at Patch welcome VC Dollar to the neighborhood and wish them the best of luck!
