Pottsgrove High School Surprise Drug Search Found No Drugs

In an effort to communicate to Pottsgrove High School students that their school in Pottstown would not tolerate illegal drugs, the Lower Pottsgrove police department and a drug-sniffing dog, as well as principal William Ziegler, did a search for illegal drugs, and found none there, according to The Sanatoga Post.

According to Ziegler, students were in their classrooms under “administrative lock-down” at 9 a.m., after which the search began. This was the first of “a set of routine and regular checks in the high school,” he said.

Parents and students were not given advance notice of the search, and parents were notified afterward.

According to Ofc. Wil James, a Lower Pottsgrove police department officer and the Pottsgrove School District’s high school resource officer, this kind of search is “standard operating procedure at many schools around the region. We feel this is one of many ways to help keep schools drug-free.”

The drug search was completed with no monetary cost to the school district, James said.
