Regal Cinema 24 in Oaks Closing: Bankruptcy Court
The 24-theater complex is expected to close in February, but a specific date has not yet been scheduled.
OAKS, PA—The Regal Cinema 24 in Oaks in Upper Providence Township is among 39 theaters scheduled to be closed beginning in February, according to a bankruptcy court filing in Houston, TX.
The theater has remained open and a specific date for closing the 24-screen Oaks facility was not announced.
The theater opened in 1999 and is off Route 422 and Egypt Road, Montgomery County. It has 24 theaters and digital sound.

When the pandemic broke out in March 2020, Gov. Wolf issued state-at-home orders, resulting in fewer patrons going to movie theaters.
Regal Cinemas, with more than 500 locations across the U.S., is owned by United Kingdom-based Cineworld Group PLC, which filed for bankruptcy in September.

The Oaks complex is one of 39 theaters that is identified for closing in the company’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in Houston, TX on Jan. 17.
One other Pennsylvania theater, the Barn Plaza Stadium 14 in Doylestown, Bucks County, also is on the list to close.
Twelve Regal-operated properties nationwide, including the Richland Crossing Stadium in Quakertown, Bucks County, have already been closed.
Cineworld’s choice of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceeding, allows it to “walk away from leases without incurring major penalties and to press landlords for better terms,” financial news website Business Insider reported.
