Spring City Library Closing for Move Next Week
A temporary location will be announced on July 2, which will house the library while construction takes place on a new facility.

Taking the next step towards the construction of a new Spring City Library, the Broad Street facility will be closed from July 6 to July 15 to get packed and moved into a temporary location.
Thanks to former librarian Bertha Bower, who died in 2001 and left $500,000 in her will to build a new library, the existing building at 245 Broad Street will be knocked down and new building will be erected in its place, according to The Mercury.
The library’s temporary location, which will house the facility for roughly one year while construction of the new $1.19 million building occurs, will be announced on July 2.

“During the move and our time in the temporary space, we will have limitations on some of our services, but we'll be doing our best to make sure that we can get everything to run as smoothly as possible during this time of transition,” said a statement from the library.
According to previous coverage on Patch, the library received a $500,000 matching funds grant from the state Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program; no taxpayer dollars will be spent on the library.
