Spring-Ford School District Superintendent Resigns
A southerner who came to PA 33 years ago, Dr. David Goodin will return to children and grandchildren in the South, leaving Spring-Ford SD.
ROYERSFORD, PA — Spring-Ford School District's superintendent of the last decade announced Friday he will resign and return to live nearer to his family in the South.
In a mildly detectable Southern accent, Dr. David Goodin said in a video announcement, "Many of you know that I'm not originally from Pennsylvania." Goodin move here with his family in 1987 and confessed in the video talk that he never expected he'd live here for 33 years.
He explained that the pandemic has made him especially mindful of the importance of family. He said he will move with his family back to the Carolinas, where he is from.

"All three of my children live in the South. My grandchildren are there. My mother who's 74 years old is still in the South along with all my aunts and uncles and innumerable cousins. So, I'm going to move back and be close to my family."
He added, "It's overdue."

His years in Pennsylvanian and in the Spring-Ford School District have been good years, though, and Goodin thanked the Spring-Ford school district community for being "extremely supportive" over the last nearly 10 years.
"We've carried on a tradition that began way before my arrival," he said. "Spring-Ford is an exceptional school district in a supportive community. It has been my honor to serve as your superintendent."
In his time as superintendent, Goodin served as Spring-Ford Educational Foundation Chief Executive Officer, represented the school district on the Spring Valley Y Advisory Board, supported the Western Montgomery Career and Technology Center (WMCTC) as the Superintendent of Record, and has served as president of the Spring-Ford Chamber of Commerce.
The school district stated that with the support of the School Board, Leadership Team, and Spring-Ford community, the district saw many accomplishments under Goodin’s leadership. The district launched the Hybrid Program at Spring City Elementary School and Royersford Elementary School. The Spring-Ford Area High School Innovation Center was renovated and expanded under Goodin's leadership and the 8th Grade Center in 2012 earned National Blue Ribbon recognition.
The district earned national recognition including News Week's Top 500 High Schools, Washington Post Top High Schools in America, and US News and World Report Silver Medal for Top High Schools under Goodin's superintendency and launched Project Lead the Way Program, and it advanced its STEM Initiatives.
The district said Goodin will remain with Spring-Ford School District through the start of the new year. In the weeks ahead the Board of School Directors will develop and share a plan for moving forward with district leadership.
"I want to take a moment to let you know how much I appreciate the community I've worked with, the staff that I've worked with, the many wonderful things that we've been able to accomplish together. I sincerely mean that. Accomplishments are not done by one individual; they are made by teams," Goodin said in his video address.
