17 Area High Schools Head to Quiz Bowl
Montgomery County Intermediate Unit hosts academic competition.

Are you ready to rumble? Montgomery County will be sending 17 different high schools to do just that, in an academic competition known as Quiz Bowl.Â
The annual Academic Competition will be held at the Spring-Ford Area High School auditorium, 350 South Lewis Road, Royersford, on Friday, April 12 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 pm.
"Each team will compete in matches, answering questions about Literature, American History, Contemporary Events, World History, Potpourri, and Science covering all time periods," said Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (MCIU) communicaitons director Kristen Rawlings. "Teams compete in two matches with two rounds in each match. The MCIU organizes the regional competition each year."

The fun doesn't stop at the MCIU. Those that do well in the competition on Friday will advance.
"On May 3, the winning regional teams from all over the state will compete in the Pennsylvania State Academic Competition at the state Capitol in Harrisburg," said Rawlings. "Each of the 29 intermediate units in Pennsylvania is permitted to send one high school academic team to participate in the competition."
The battle is worth the while. Those on the winning team are well rewarded for their efforts.
"The championship team will receive a $2,000 scholarship for their high school and will have the opportunity to participate in the Panasonic Academic Challenge at Disney World in June," said Rawlings. "The Pennsylvania Academic Competition started in 1992."
