Driver Chops Down Verizon Utility Pole in Crash, Police Say

Lower Moreland Police link a Jeep to a possible DUI accident near Byberry and Heaton Roads.

Feb. 24 – Hit-and-Run accident

While on patrol, a Lower Moreland police officer saw a muddy Jeep Liberty with damage to its fender flare, headlight lens stopped in the roadway on Byberry Road. To the side of the road, the police officer also saw an un-numbered Verizon utility pole, which was sheared off and pushed approximately 20 feet west from its original location. Just beyond the remaining utility pole was a small tree with fresh damage.

The car had heavy front-end damage and was missing its front fender, consistent with what police officers believed to be from crashing into the pole and tree. The driver, of Warminster, admitted to drinking two beers earlier in the night and said he left the scene of the accident because his cousins lived nearby.
