Forest Hills Cemetery Sign Still Damaged

In January a Lower Moreland police officer noticed a gray BMW 530 sitting in the parking lot of the Flower Station across from Wawa at the intersection of Philmont Avenue and Byberry Road.

Nobody was in the car at the time, but police later found 23-year-old Dzianis Betseu, who admitted to driving the car. The story is that while driving, he approached the intersection of Byberry Rd. and his  car left the roadway and collided and destroyed The Forest Hills Cemetery sign.

The officer noticed structural damage to Flower Station as a corner of the building was smashed in. Broken glass and plastic was strewn about the rest of the parking lot.

Nearly two months later and the entrance sign still looks the same as it did the night of the accident, Jan. 13.

According to Forest Hills Cemetary, it received $2,300 from the insurance company to help with repairs. The Cemetery is looking into other design options because the rest of the cost will come out of its pocket. Nulty said that number was "not even close" to what it will cost to have a new sign put up.

"There's no timeline, but we're going to get it squared away as soon as possible," Nulty said.

Nulty also said a possibility would be to take the existing structure down while they wait for the new sign.
