German Exchange Students Arrive at Lower Moreland High School

Six German teenagers arrived stepped down in the United States for the first time in their lives last Friday, and now they will be living in Lower Moreland over the next four weeks.

LM German teacher Margaret Stiles, with the help of other Lower Moreland students, helped host a Welcome Party for the new arrivals. Refreshments, water ice, cake and other foods were passed out as the students got to know one another.

The students hail from areas of Germany including Dietenheim, Illerkirchberg, Staig, and Erienweg. Now, five local familes will host the six students (two in one house) until April 15.

The students admitted Lower Moreland is drastically different than the school they attend in Germany. The biggest difference being technology and the use of computers. In Germany teachers mainly use blackboards and chalk, but Lower Moreland has moved more to a digital learning system.

The food is also a bit of a culture shock. While snacking at the high school, the students said American food is a lot sweeter, and more fattening, than they are used to.
