Montgomery County Offering Free Health Clinics to Meet School Deadlines

The Montgomery County Health Department is offering free clincs for children who qualify to get their school vaccinations. According to press a release issued by the county, the deadline to submit immunization records for most schools is April 30. 

If your child is unable to get his or her vaccinations with their healthcare provider, contact the school nurse to get your screening questionaire. You will then be able to pre-register for one of the Montgomery County Health Department free clinics. Only students with paperwork from the school nurse will be able to utilize the free clinics.

If your child's vaccinations are up to date, you may want to make sure his or her records reflect so with the school nurse anyway. According to Pennsylvania regulations, your child will not be permitted to attend school if his or her documentation is not up to date and submitted by the deadline.

The Lower Moreland School District's Immunization requirements for 2011-12 are:

Students in all grades are required to have:

• 2 varivax immunizations or history of the disease (chicken
• pox)
• 2 doses of Mumps vaccine (usually given as MMR)
• 3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine

Additional required immunizations for all students entering 7th grade:

• Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) if more than five years
  since last tetanus shot
• Meningococcal Vaccine (MCV)

The County clinics will provide: Varicella (chicken pox), Meningococcal (MCV), and Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis).
