Lower Moreland Names New Teacher to Replace PA State Rep. Joe Emrick

Joe Emrick was a staple in Lower Moreland. He served as an Economics and Social Studies for nearly 15 years in the district. But he chose to pursue his political career and was recently re-elected as the State Rep. for the 137th Legislative District.

Because of his government responsibilities, he formally submitted his resignation to the school and there was a vacant position for the full-time teacher at Murray Avenue Middle School for the classes he taught.

At its most recent meeting Tuesday night, the Lower Moreland School Board recommended Emrick’s replacement in Jason Arehart.

“We are really excited to be able to recommend to you Jason for the English/Social Studies teaching position at Murray Avenue School,” Superintendent Dr. Marykay Feeley said at her presentation.

Arehart served as a long-term substitute teacher for English and Social Studies at Murray Avenue since the beginning of the school year, but will now slide into the permanent role as teacher.

“And he’s been doing with a whole lot of enthusiasm and a lot of desire to actually stand here (now),” Feeley said.  

Prior to joining the Lower Moreland School District, Arehart served as an English teacher at Our Lady of Carmel in Doylestown for two-and-a-half years, and also has experience at middle schools in Cherry Hill, NJ. He also was the building substitute at Murray Avenue prior to obtaining this position.

“Supervisors and colleagues describe Jason as sincere, dedicated and a true team player,” Feeley said. “These attributes were immediately evident when we began working and seeing Jason in action at Murray Avenue.”

Arehart holds his Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education and History from Temple University. He’s certified in Pennsylvania to teach Social Studies (grades 7-12), Citizen’s Education (grades 7-12) and English (grades 7-9).

“We are proud to recommend you to our Board,” Feeley concluded.
