Police Log: Methadone Patient in Accident, More Manor Care Theft and DUI
The following incidents were reported by the Lower Moreland Police Department.

December 21 β Theft
- Manor Care Health, 3430 Huntingdon Pike
Charles Beringer, 67, is a patient at Manor Care and reported that his watch was taken from his nightstand drawer sometime before going to bed at 11 p.m. The next day, upon his return from a rehabilitation session, he realized the watch had been removed. Beringer described the watch as an analog with a black leather band that cost $59.95. Beringer said he reported the theft to management, who offered him $20 to compensate him for the loss. Beringer declined the offer.

Manor Care has had numerous reports of theft from its patients in the past. This is the latest in a long list.

- 400 block of Lawrence Rd.
William Saring, 55, of Huntingdon Valley, reported that items from grandmotherβs house, Florence Stockton, 90, had been slowing disappearing over the last five months ever since care takers from Intervention Associates have been coming to the home to take care of his grandmother.
Saring believes approximately $20,000 worth of items have been stolen from the home including 12 items from a small freestanding shelf in the living room, 3 items on each of the three end tables, 3 items from a desk, 3 items from a coffee table, a vase in the front window sill, a vase from the rear window sill and 4 drawers full of jewelry from a dresser in Stocktonβs bedroom. Saring told police he has called Intervention Associates, but it denies any wrongdoing.
December 19 β Theft
- 100 block of Woodland Rd.
John Mastalski, 40, of Huntingdon Valley, called LMPD at 7:51 p.m. to report the theft of a metal skateboard rail from his property. Mastalski reported a white male wearing a black hoodie took the rail from his lawn. The male got into the passenger side of a white pick-up truck that was being driven by another person. There was also white, metal patio furniture, indicating that the actors could be scrapping metal.
December 19 β Narcotics Possession
- Area of Philmont Ave. & Manor Rd.
Jamie McAbbe, 31, of Lancaster, was involved in a 2-car accident after rear-ending another driver at the intersection of Philmont and Manor roads.Β McAbbe couldnβt provide a reason for crashing her car, and told police she was on her way to her counseling session at Discovery House, the treatment facility that dispenses Methadone for people suffering from the opiate addiction.
Officers found two empty Methadone bottles and another empty prescription bottle in her possession. Insider her purse, LMPD found more pills wrapped in the cellophane cigarette wrapper. McAbbe claimed they belonged to her boyfriend. According to police, this type of packaging is consistent with illegal drug use. The pill and the pill bottle were both seized and taken back to the police station.
December 17 β DUI
- Area of Red Lion Rd. & Kirk Dr.
Mark Disalvo, 30, of Glenside, was arrested for DUI at 1:36 a.m. Officers observed his car pulled over on the side of the road, which Disalvo said he did in order to throw up. He was driving home from a party where he admitted to having a few drinks. He failed field sobriety tests and registered a .10% BAC.
December 16 β DUI
- Valley Sunoco, 2883 Philmont Ave.
LMPD received a call at 6:50 p.m. that an intoxicated male was in the parking lot of the Sunoco taking his clothes off. Police arrived to see Charles Ditsche, 44, of Southampton, without his shirt on and his pants down to his ankles. He was slumped over the center console of his car asleep.
Ditsche explained to the officer that he took his shirt off because he thought he was going to vomit because of kidney stones. He was placed under arrest after failing multiple field sobriety checks.
December 14 β DUI
- Area of Huntingdon Pike & Tomlinson Rd.
Christina Dargan, 24, of Southampton, was arrested for DUI at 4:29 p.m. A preliminary breath sample revealed a result of .253% BAC. Dargan, who also failed field sobriety tests, was seen as a reckless driver and was swerving on roads in Lower Moreland before getting pulled over.
December 14 β DUI
- Area of Tomlinson Rd. & Nandina St.
Christopher Curran, 24, of Philadelphia, was arrested for DUI at 2:37 a.m. after registering a 0.14% BAC. Curran was traveling on the road with a flat tire below the posted limit at 35 mph, which was the reason cops pulled him over. Curran later stated that he drove off the road on Terwood Rd. causing his flat tire.Β
