Youth Aid Panel Seeks Volunteers

Lower Moreland is one of five school districts that could use a little extra help to assist first-time juvenile offenders.

Volunteers are needed for a well established, highly successful diversionary program of the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office. This unique program helps first time juvenile offenders take responsibility for their actions and move forward in a more positive direction with the assistance of a group of local community volunteers.Β  The Youth Aid Panel Program is currently in need of additional members in the following school district areas: North Penn, Methacton, Lower Moreland, Pottstown, and Perkiomen Valley.Β

Adult residents of Montgomery County who have lived in the county for a minimum of one year may serve as panelists.Β  Applicants may not be a school official, employed in law enforcement, or seeking or presently holding public office.Β

Panelists must participate in a 15-hour training program. Training will be held on 5 consecutive Thursday evenings beginning on February 23, 2012.Β  Interested volunteers are encouraged to contact the Program Coordinator, Tom Haney at (610) 277-8909 ext. 105.Β  For more information about the Youth Aid Panel Program, or to obtain a volunteer application, visit the Youth Aid Panel link at www.montcomediation.com.
