Attempted Carjacking In Upper Providence Township Last Week

UPPER PROVIDENCE TOWNSHIP, PA — Police in this Montgomery County community say an attempted carjacking occurred late last week in the parking lot of a local store.

Upper Providence Police said officers responded on Sept. 30 at just before 9 at night to a reported carjacking outside of the BJ's Wholesale Club at 200 Mill Road in the Oaks section of the township.

Officers spoke to the victim, who reported that someone wearing a mask pulled him out of his vehicle and punched him, while at the same time trying to steal the vehicle from the owner.

The victim was able to stop the attempted carjacking and the suspect ended up fleeing, police said.

Officers called in a K9 unit to try and track down the suspect, but the suspect was able to get away.

The victim described the suspect as a Black man wearing a blue face mask, jeans and a gray zip-up sweatshirt, according to police.

Detectives were last speaking with local businesses to see if they could obtain any surveillance video showing the encounter.

Police are now asking for the public's assistance in locating the suspect, and they are asking anyone with information to call Detective Sean Franchini at 610-933-7899.

Police did not divulge whether or not any weapon was used in the course of the attempted carjacking.
