LOWER PROVIDENCE, PA — Montgomery County investigators are looking into a possible homicide after an adult woman's body was found Thursday in a wooded area near the Schuylkill River Trail's Betzwood Trailhead in Lower Providence.

Police were seen scouring the area earlier Thursday in aerial footage captured by a local news chopper.

On Thursday afternoon, the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office put out a statement saying county detectives, Lower Providence Police and the Upper Darby Police Department in neighboring Delaware County were all involved in the investigation.

A suspect had turned himself in to Upper Darby police on Thursday to report the apparent homicide, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office.

CBS 3 Philly reported Thursday afternoon that the man allegedly confessed to killing his girlfriend and dumping her body in Lower Providence.

The identity of the woman is being withheld pending family notification. An autopsy by the Montgomery County Coroner's Office is scheduled for Friday, according to county prosecutors.

Charges have yet to be filed against the suspect, the D.A.'s office stated. The CBS 3 Philly report said that Montgomery County investigators were in the process of traveling to Delaware County to interview the suspect.

Montgomery County prosecutors say that there is no public safety concern at this time as this appears to be a "relationship-based homicide."
