Collegeville Italian Bakery Says Goodbye to Beloved Employee

Kelly Gambone fought back tears on Wednesday as she ended her last day at the mom and pop Italian eatery on Ridge Pike.

It's not often that folks start crying when they clock out of their job, but Kelly Gambone couldn't fight back the tears.

Gambone was signing off for the last time today at Collegeville Italian Bakery where she's worked the last four years alongside her two sisters, Stephanie and Kim, and a host of other CIB employees who she feels just as strongly about.

"Everybody's like family to me," she said of her bakery colleagues.

"It's a family-run business," said owner Steve Carcarey who, along with his wife Patrizia, feel the same way about Gambone and all their employees. "We're not related by blood, but we're related because we're here so many days, years, months... without our employees this business doesn't run."

The Carcareys will have to make do without Kelly, who is moving to Connecticut, but the other Gambone sisters will be on hand to pick up the slack.

"[It's going to be] quiet," said Stephanie Gambone, of working without her sister by her side. "And sad... but we'll cope without her."

Sister Kim wasn't so confident.

"I'm going to be sad," said Kim Gambone. "She's my best friend."

Stop by the Collegeville Italian Bakery at 3846 Ridge Pike in Collegeville, weekdays from 8 a.m to 7 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to console the Gambone sisters and pick up a bite to eat.
