26-year-old Manuel Castro, of the Collegeville section of Lower Providence, is facing DUI charges after crashing his vehicle into a pole on Ridge Pike.

The following item contains information provided by the Lower Providence Township Police Department. Arrests, where they are mentioned, do not indicate conviction.

DUI Crash: On June 2 at 2:44 a.m., members of the Lower Providence Police Department responded to the scene of a one-vehicle accident on Ridge Pike, near the intersection of Wilson Boulevard.

Upon arrival, police observed a red, 2010 Chevy Malibu on its roof, a pole that had been snapped in half and was hanging by wires, and wires on the ground. No one was in the vehicle, and the driver was not at the location, according to the report.

Police spoke with a motorist at the scene, who stated that he did not witness the accident, but saw the driver – wearing white boxer-type shorts and no shirt – climbing out of the upside-down vehicle before running northward towards the tree line, police said. After speaking to the motorist, police drove to the home of Theresa Disque, 27, of the 3500 block of Baker Street, as she was listed as the registered owner of the vehicle, the report states.

Upon arrival to the home, police encountered Disque, who was filing a stolen vehicle report with her insurance company. Disque initially told police that her husband – Manuel Castro, 26 – told her that the car was stolen, but when informed by police that filing a false report – even to an insurance company – was a crime, Disque quickly recanted and stated that her husband was driving the car home from work, according to the report.

Disque reportedly told police that her husband was not home, but while walking through the home, police spotted Castro laying facedown on his bed, wearing white shorts with gray stripes and no shirt, police said. Castro had blood on his shorts, as well as lacerations on both hands and bleeding abrasions in the area of his right knee, the report states.

Castro told police that he had "two beers" at Applebees on Trooper Road, where he works as a cook, and admitted to crashing his vehicle on Ridge Pike, before getting out and walking directly home, the report states. Castro showed multiple signs of being intoxicated, and repeatedly told officers "I did it" and "arrest me," police said.

After confirming that Castro could read and write in English, police gave him a field sobriety test, police said. Asked to recite the alphabet, Castro informed police that he didn't know the alphabet that well. Castro also struggled to count from 1 to 20 and then back, telling police "you know I'm Mexican," the report states.

Police then gave Castro an Alco Sensor Breath Test, which showed his blood-alcohol content to be 0.132 percent, according to the report. He was then arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, drivers required to be licensed, reckless driving, careless driving and accidents involving damage to unattended vehicles or property.

Castro was transported to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility, where was processed and later released.
