UPDATE: Hazmat Scene in Lower Providence Cleared

A chlorine tank leaked at a business located in the Oakdale/Woodlyn neighborhood Thursday morning.

Emergency personnel have cleared the scene of a hazmat incident in Lower Providence, according to CBS Philly. The residents of 50 homes in the Oakdale/Woodlyn neighborhood evacuated earlier Thursday morning began returning to their homes at noon.

A chlorine odor was detected at approximately 9 a.m. in the Oakdale/Woodlyn neighborhood, said John Corcoran of the Montgomery County Office of Public Safety .

According to 6ABC, the leak came from a tank of chlorine at MAWA Incorporated on Woodlyn.

The site cleanup took the rest of the morning, with a temporary shelter established at the Lower Providence Fire Station at Ridge Pike and East Mount Kirk Avenue. Four people have been taken to the hospital for complaints of dizziness and headaches, according to reports.
