Lengthy Sentence for Trooper Resident in Mentally Disabled Sexual Assault Case

Assistant District Attorney Matthew Quigg described the Lower Providence man's crime against a, then, 19-year old disabled person as, "one of the most horrific crimes that you can have."

According to the Montgomerynews.com, Shawn Charles Stankina, 31, of Long Meadow Road in Trooper, was sentenced in a Montgomery County court on Aug. 3, for up to 15 years in prison for the sexual assault of a 19-year-old mentally disabled man.

The report states that Stankina had the victim in his presence in the township between 2008 and 2009, when multiple incidents were reported to have occurred.

Stankina was charged with rape of a mentally disabled person, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a person with a mental disability and indecent assault of a person with a mental disability.

His sentance also carries 20 years of probation, and, according to the report, Stankina will also participate in a community-based sexoffender treatment program and undergo regular plygraph exams, upon release from prison.

Furthermore, while not determined to meet the criteria under Megan's Law, Stankina will have to report his address to state police for the rest of his life.
