Lower Providence Police Dept. Becomes Member of Law Enforcement Treatment Initiative
Lower Providence is another Montgomery County agency partnering with state prosecutors through the Law Enforcement Treatment Initiative.
LOWER PROVIDENCE, PA — The Lower Providence Township Police Department announced last week that it has become one of the police agencies across Montgomery County participating in a drug treatment partnership with state prosecutors.
The department stated that it is now a member of the Law Enforcement Treatment Initiative, which seeks to focus on the public health aspect of substance abuse as opposed to the criminal justice aspect.
Lower Providence Police posted on its Facebook page that individuals who suffer from drug abuse issues can present themselves to police officers at the department headquarters, who can help the individual get entered into a rehabilitative treatment program.

“Unfortunately, we are seeing more and more drug overdose deaths every year and we encourage those suffering from addiction to reach out to police for help,” the department posted on Facebook.
The department says that the main goal of the program is to “reduce deaths, overdoses, and crime associated with substance use disorders by getting people into appropriate programs.”

Patch previously reported on another Montgomery County police agency, the Horsham Police Department, announcing its participation in the Law Enforcement Treatment Initiative, whose goal, according to the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office, is to connect people who suffer from substance abuse with treatment options and simultaneously taking away the fear of being arrested and charged in connection with the use of an illegal substance.
More information on the program can be found here in Patch’s previous reporting on the initiative.
