Lower Providence Township Manager Don Delamater Bids Farewell

After five years, Township Manager Donald Delamater left Lower Providence last week as he prepares to begin his new job in Towamencin.

LOWER PROVIDENCE, PA — After five years in his post, Donald Delamater left his position as township manager in this central Montgomery County municipality last week as he prepares to lead another nearby Montco town, one which he also happens to call home.

Delamater will now be serving as Towamencin Township Manager, after he was chosen for the position in June. He also resides in the community.

Lower Providence announced Delamater’s last day through a post on the township’s Facebook page this past Friday.

“We’re sad to lose Don and are grateful for his service to the Township over the past 5 years,” the post reads. “We wish Don all the best in his new position as manager in Towamencin Township.”

Delamater was chosen to replace former Towamecin Township Manager Rob Ford, who had held the position since 2004, according to a spring 2021 township newsletter.

On June 24, Towamencin announced through a news alert that Delamater had been chosen by that township’s Board of Supervisors out of more than 30 applicants to fill the void left by Ford’s retirement after 16 years of service.

Delamater is slated to begin his position in Towamencin on Aug. 9.

“Not only does Don bring a wealth of experience to the position, but we believe he is a good fit, possessing many of the same traits that made Rob Ford a very successful and well-respected Township Manager here,” Towamencin Board of Supervisor’s Chairman Chuck Wilson said in a statement online.

Before his time in Lower Providence, Delamater, who has worked in municipal management for a quarter-century, served as the township manager in both Hilltown Township, Bucks County and East Norriton Township, Montgomery County, according to an online bio.

He has a master’s degree in public administration from Villanova University and has an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Florida Atlantic University.
