LOWER PROVIDENCE, PA — Methacton School District officials reportedly put the high school on a brief lockout Tuesday morning after a report surfaced of a threatening message.

The high school campus went into a lockout around 10:30 Tuesday morning after a student reported the threatening message, one which was ultimately deemed not credible, according to a text message that Superintendent David Zerbe sent to parents and the school community.

A screenshot of the text was shared just before 12 noon to social media. It was posted by a member of a Methacton parents' Facebook group.

The text said that local law enforcement was notified about the threatening message, and authorities ultimately determined that the threat was not credible following an investigation.

The lockout was lifted around 11:15 a.m. and classes resumed as normal. Students were expected to be dismissed as normal Tuesday afternoon.

Zerbe's text message said that a lockout is a security measure that prevents individuals inside a building from exiting and prevents any visitors from entering a school building.

The exact nature of the threatening message was not immediately made clear.

Some parents in the Facebook group said that they had initially been unaware of the lockout, but subsequently learned of the news through a school district email communication.
