Township Parks and Rec Looking for Dirt

Lower Providence Township Parks and Recreation needs 'Clean-Fill' in order to help complete its improvements to Redtail Park.

According to a discussion at the Aug. 14 Lower Providence Parks and Recreation Board meeting, the Marc J. Small Soccer Field is nearing the end of its field improvements.

The Marc J. Small Soccer Field is located within, at 1117 Redteail Road in Eagleville.

According to Parks and Recreation board member George Ozorowski, the project is approximately 60 – 70-percent completed, as the long portion of the soccer field is apparently ready for use. However, Ozorowski said the width portion, which was described as the “bigger of the two jobs,” still needs approximately 80 truckloads of clean-fill.

Ozorowski explained that “clean-fill” is an industry term, meaning dirt that is uncontaminated and contains rocks; as opposed to “top soil,” which contains only dirt.

Per the discussion, the Parks and Recreation Board has already gained clean-fill from local construction projects, but is seeking more of such projects in and around the township to complete the second leg of the soccer field improvements.

Ozorowski suggested seeking out neighborhood construction projects, including the installation of in-ground pools, as such a project would yield at least 10 truckloads of clean-fill.

“If you see in your neighborhood or any projects around, ask them for the fill,” Ozorowski said.

Once filled, commencement of top soil and grass seeding will proceed.
