Trappe Fire Leaves Several Local Families Without A Home

A two-alarm blaze ripped through a townhome community in Montgomery County over the weekend.

TRAPPE, PA — Several families in a Montgomery County community are without a home after a major fire ripped through the area over the weekend.

The incident occurred in Trappe at around 2 a.m. Saturday morning.

Miraculously, despite the size and strength of the blaze, no firefighters or residents were injured.

The blaze began at a a three-story townhouse condo building on the 600 block of Muhlenberg Drive. It quickly spread throughout the building, impacting all eight units attached.

A second alarm was called after first responders arrived.

Crews went door to door to ensure all occupants safely escaped.

Firefighters were on the scene for nearly six hours knocking the blaze down and putting out hot spots. It was brought under control by 4:15 a.m. but crews remained on scene until about 8 a.m.

The cause remains unclear, and the Regional Fire Investigation Task Force is investigating.

"Last evening members of our community suffered a devastating loss, as a structure fire has displaced multiple families," Trappe Borough Council shared in a statement. "Our community again showed its wonderful compassion as neighbors offered coffee, food and shelter to the residents involved and the volunteer firefighters."

Two dogs escaped during the chaos, but were later safely reunited with their families, officials said.

Trappe Borough said they would issue an update about the best way for the community to assist further as the families begin to recover from their losses.
