Fiery Crash Claims Woman's Life In Montco

The 23-year-old woman from Norristown died after she crashed her car into another vehicle Sunday evening in Worcester Township.

WORCESTER TOWNSHIP, PA — A 23-year-old Montgomery County woman died Sunday evening after she crashed her car head-on into another vehicle, causing her vehicle to erupt into flames.

The victim, whose name was not released, was described by Pennsylvania State Police as a female from Norristown.

State troopers said they were dispatched to the area of the 1100 block of Grange Avenue in Worcester Township, just over the Lower Providence Township line, a little after 8 p.m. Sunday for a reported two-car crash with injuries.

A Montgomery County incident alert put out on Twitter Sunday evening said that one individual was dead on arrival and that a medical chopper was requested to come to the scene to transport the other individual who was suffering from trauma.

State Police said that the woman's vehicle was traveling north on Grange Avenue approaching Water Street, and the second driver was traveling in the opposite direction.

For reasons not known at this time, the woman began to cross the center line into the other driver's lane of travel, police said, causing the two vehicles to crash head-on.

After the collision, the woman's car burst into flames, police said.

Crews from the volunteer Worcester Fire Company were called to the scene to extinguish the flames, after which they found the woman dead inside her vehicle, police said.

An exact cause of the accident has not yet been determined, and state police are continuing to investigate.

A status update on the condition of the other driver was not immediately released.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is being asked to call the State Police Skippack Barracks at 610-584-1250.

Unlike Lower Providence Township, neighboring Worcester does not have its own local police force, so law enforcement matters are handled by the Pennsylvania State Police.
