Local Baker Competes on New Netflix Baking Series
Southampton's Baking Maven Randi Leese is on Netflix's Baking Impossible Competition Show
When you talk to Southampton baker Randi Leese about her recent adventures on a new Netflix baking competition show it becomes crystal clear why we need to step out of our comfort zone.
The local baker, who makes spectacular one-of-a-kind cakes for birthdays, anniversaries, bar/bat mitzvahs, and other special occasions was invited on Baking Impossible, the new Netflix show that pairs nine teams of seasoned bakers and experienced engineers called "Bakineers."
Leese's first job was working at Hesh's Bakery in Northeast Philadelphia, where she observed the other bakers and made her first cakes for family birthdays; but through the years it was always a "side hobby" and she took a detour as a teacher and financial planner.

She and her supportive husband, Kenny, also raised two daughters, Victoria, 23, and Morgan, 18. Some 10 years ago she took the plunge and opened R.L. Cake Designs, her in-home bakery. complete with all the necessary licenses, insurance, and health inspections.
When she applied to compete on the Netflix show, Leese admits heading to L.A. by herself was a major risk. " But I am so glad I did it. Getting out of my comfort zone forced me to be more creative," she says.

For Leese baking is her "happy place." She says she puts her heart and soul into every cake that she creates and loves being creative while working with edible ingredients.
She hopes that everyone will watch this fun show, which she describes as "crazy and wild. I am very happy that I did it. I learned about my own limitations being pushed. The major lessons that I want to share are these: Stay true to yourself, do what you love, and never give up!"
