Racial Justice Vigil Planned Sunday In Southampton

The gathering on Sunday is hosted by Southampton Friends Meeting and part of its ongoing series of vigils.

LOWER SOUTHAMPTON, PA — Members of the Southampton Friends Meetinghouse are inviting the public to join them for a vigil for racial justice on Sunday.

The vigil is an ongoing one and takes place every Sunday at the meetinghouse, at 710 Gravel Hill Rd. in Southampton. On Sunday, it is planned for 3-4:30 p.m.

"We’ll continue our weekly vigil until significant change happens or we find a better way of working toward a loving and just solution to the systemic oppression manifested by the killing and unjust treatment of black and brown people in our country," the Friends group said in a release.

Participants are asked to wear masks and maintain social distancing, dress for the weather and, if possible, wear at least one article of black clothing or clothing with a social-justice message.

The group will have signs or participants may bring their own, which should be readable by people driving by at 50 m.p.h. The meetinghouse asks that the signs not be politically partisan and not specifically mention police.
