TODAY, Inc. Awards David's New Day with a Grant

David's New Day awarded a grant to help further their "Closing the Gap" initiative

David’s New Day is proud to recognize Today, Inc. for the $7,500 grant awarded to them to further their “Closing the Gap” Initiative.

The grant will continue to ensure that those who are discharged from inpatient addiction treatment are provided the basic necessities to sustain their recovery. Their “Closing the Gap” initiative provides funding for things such as recovery house rent, medication cost, copay and coinsurance costs, license renewals, clothing, etc. “We know that the first few weeks out of treatment, you are at your most fragile. We want to be there, pick the person up and provide them hope,” said Julie Smith, President of David’s New Day.

David’s New Day is a nonprofit organization formed in memory of David Ramsey, a father, son and brother who passed away from addiction in March of 2013. David is Julie’s younger brother who struggled with addiction for many years. She formed this nonprofit a year after his passing as a way to remember him and continue to bring to light his giving spirit. “He was kind and warm. He would have helped anyone in need and often dreamt of time when he could give back and help those struggling with addiction. We are just doing that for him now,” said Julie Smith. And helping they are. Through their efforts, they have managed to assist over 450 individuals gain access to addiction treatment and services.

Today, Inc. is a local nonprofit foundation. Their mission is to provide financial assistance to other agencies and organizations that provide vital services to youth, young adults, families, and communities. John Howell, Executive Director of TODAY, Inc., presented David's New Day with the check.

"We couldn’t do this without the support of kind organizations like TODAY, Inc.," said Julie Smith. "Their generous grant means the world to us and will allow us to keep making a difference in so many lives.”
