Goodbye, Frazer Zoo. Hello, Aquarium Specialties & Research

Frazer Zoo, a pet store in the Lincoln Court Shopping Center, went out of business earlier this year. One of its longtime, employees, Mike Castiglioni, is taking the opportunity to open a new store, Aquarium Specialties & Research, a few doors down.

A press release from the new business gives some of the details:

Saturday, September 29, 2012 will mark the grand opening of ASR, Aquarium Specialties & Research, Eastern Pennsylvania’s premier center for premium salt and freshwater fish, reef corals, and reptiles. Whether you’re looking to start your first aquarium or you’re an expert, ASR offers the finest selection of healthy aquatic livestock and supplies along with a broad range of educational classes and consulting to enhance the enjoyment of your home aquarium experience.

Last winter, the community learned that longtime Chester County fixture, The Frazer Zoo was closing. After years of customer prompting, The Frazer Zoo’s aquatics and reptile expert and store manager, Mike Castiglioni was convinced to open a high quality aquatics and reptile store. Former Delaware Valley Reef Club President Steve Lapicki shared that “many people don’t realize that we have one the country’s best coral and salt water fish experts right in our back yard. People come from New York and Maryland to buy livestock from Mike because they know he cares and carries only healthy and unusual stock from around the world. Mike makes sure his customers’ select the right fish and coral for their set-up. Aside from being just a great guy, he takes the time to make sure his customers know how to care for their fish and coral.”

Owner Mike Castiglioni shared “we love kids and serve the needs of beginners as well as our big time experts. Aside from having one of the largest selections in the country, our key to make sure customers have a fun hobby experience. We offer all levels of classes for beginners to experts. Many people don’t realize the salt water aquariums are pretty easy to keep. It’s a great hobby for kids to learn about ecosystems, oceanography, and responsibility. We try to match the level of livestock to the level of expertise of the customer…we want them to have fun and keep the animals healthy. We love it when customers come back all excited and tell us how their fish and coral are growing - - that’s why we do it.”

“By popular demand…and my other big personal interest…we also have a top notch ‘reptile room’ with common and exotic snakes, lizards, frogs, turtles…you name it.”

ASR offers evening classes that include “Introduction to Pet Keeping” for young children,  a variety of beginner to expert courses in fresh and saltwater aquarium keeping, and introduction and specialty courses for coral reef growers.  We also offer specially designed classes and seminars for school and scout groups (please call for details).
