Malvern Boro Puts Out Call For Help, Especially On Forming Policy
Malvern's Comprehensive Plan Task Force needs volunteers to re-evaluate the 2012 plan, and help form borough policy for the next decade.

MALVERN, PA — Looking for a way to serve and influence what happens in Malvern in the coming decade? The borough needs residents to step up.
Malvern's Borough Council is looking for community members to serve on several committees, but especially needs resident volunteers to help shape borough policy for the coming 10 years.
Malvern Borough has officially advertised for applications from residents to serve on the Comprehensive Plan Task Force. The board said in its August meeting that it will gather resumes from volunteers and decide how many will be on the task force based on applications received.

Comprehensive Plan Task Force will be help update Malvern Borough’s 2012 Comprehensive Plan, which establishes the policy direction that guides actions and decisions over the next decade. Upon completion, the plan will guide the Borough in such areas as changes to Borough ordinances, improvements to the street and sidewalk network, economic development, historic resource preservation, natural resource protection, and parks, recreation, and open space planning.
The project is being undertaken in accordance with Article III of the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code and under the professional guidance of the Brandywine Conservancy. Malvern Borough's 2012 Comprehensive Plan is posted publically.

Interested parties may submit a letter of interest and resume to the borough manager by Oct. 1. Contact information is at the end of this story.
Malvern Borough has openings on other volunteer boards and committees. Below is a list of vacancies on the Borough’s boards and committees:
- Planning Commission, Regular Voting Member: This vacancy is for a full, regular voting member. This position carries a four (4) year term. The individual appointed to this position will complete a term that expires on January 1, 2021.
- Planning Commission, Alternate Member: This vacancy is for an alternate member and the position carries a four (4) year term. As an alternate member to the Planning Commission, this individual appointed will be permitted to participate in all meetings and discussion, but would not vote unless designated to do so by the Chair. This would include instances where a member is either absent, has recused themselves from a topic of discussion, or is disqualified by the governing body.
- Zoning Hearing Board, Alternate Member: There is currently one (1) vacancy on the Zoning Hearing Board for an alternate member. The individual appointed will complete a term that expires on January 1, 2022. This individual appointed will be permitted to participate in all meetings and discussion, but would not vote unless designated to do so by the Chair. This would include instances where a member is either absent, has recused themselves from a topic of discussion, or is disqualified by the governing body.
- Environmental Advisory Council: There are currently two (2) vacancies on the Environmental Advisory Council. Functions of this body include promoting education about the Borough’s natural resources, identifying environmental problems, and reviewing the environmental aspects of subdivision and land development applications before the Borough. The individuals appointed will complete a terms that expires on January 1, 2022.
- Parks & Recreation Committee: There is currently one (1) vacancy on this Committee. This position carries a five (5) year term. The individual appointed will complete term that expires on January 1, 2023.
