Malvern's history dates back well before its official incorporation. Welsh immigrants originally settled the area in the 17th century as part of the "Welsh Tract" granted by William Penn. The Pennsylvania Railroad's rise in the 19th century brought commerce and opportunity to the region, closely tying the development of Malvern to it.
The borough's name, Malvern, is believed to be inspired by the Malvern Hills in England, reflecting the area’s picturesque rolling landscapes.

The town was a quiet farming village for much of its early history, but by the late 1800s, increased development, transportation needs, and a desire for self-governance led to its incorporation as a borough on August 13, 1889.

Today, it is home to families, businesses, artists, and innovators—while still maintaining the historical character that makes it unique.
