Malvern Prep Student Identified As Victim In Fatal Chester County Crash

A student at the prestigious preparatory school died Tuesday morning when a deer crashed into a vehicle he was riding in.

MALVERN, PA — Officials have identified the victim in Tuesday's deadly freak accident in West Bradford Township as a Main Line prep school student.

Head of School at Malvern Preparatory School Dr. Patrick Sillup confirmed the person killed was a student there. The boy's age and identity were not released.

"I can confirm that we have experienced the loss of a member of our student body," Sillup said. "This loss is a profound tragedy that has impacted our students, faculty, staff, and community. Out of respect for this young man and his family, we will not be sharing additional details at this time. Our immediate focus is on surrounding his family with compassion and ensuring that our students, faculty, and staff are supported as we grieve together."

The incident happened on Downingtown Pike/Route 322, east of Romig Road, in West Bradford Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

A vehicle heading east hit a deer, sending the deer into the westbound lanes and onto a vehicle. The deer landed on the vehicle's windshield, injuring the boy as the first vehicle drove off, authorities said.

Police said the boy was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The vehicle that struck the deer is believed to be a black Toyota Sienna with heavy front-end damage.
