Villa Student Is on Road to 'Full Recovery' After Collapse

The school newsletter shows a photo of the girl holding a defibrillator that saved her life.

The Villa Maria cross country runner who collapsed on the school's athletic field on Sept. 13 is on the road to a full recovery, according to the school's newsletter.

The Sept. 21 edition of Hurricane Happenings (PDF) includes a photo of the girl, Blair Allan, holding an automated external defibrillator (AED) and smiling. The caption reads:

On the road to full recovery, Blair Allan displays the AED device that saved her life.  We thank God for her continued progress and our fantastic athletic team.

The website Great Valley Does quoted an email sent to parents from the school's principal, Sister Regina Ryan, the day after the incident:

Because of the quick and appropriate action taken by our trainer, athletic staff, and coaches, as well as the assistance of a parent of a player on a visiting team who is an emergency nurse at Jefferson, the student received rapid life-saving treatment. The latest report is that the student (I’ve removed her name to protect her & the families privacy) is in CHOP and stable.

The newsletter also includes this "Hurricane Warning:"

FROM THE NURSE: If your daughter has special medical concerns, please contact our school nurse. All students carrying medication must submit a physician’s note to the school. Forms can be found on Edline.  Also, as a reminder, ALL juniors and students new to the state of Pennsylvania need to submit a Physical Exam. It can be a sports physical as long as the current immunizations are attached. We are accepting physicals done within the year unless it is a sports physical which needs to be current.
