Celebrate Delco's 236th Birthday With A Weekend Of Fun
Delaware County is celebrating its 236th birthday with happy hours, a kinetic sculpture derby, an anniversary reception, a race, and more.
DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Delaware County is celebrating its 236th birthday with a weekend of activities.
"Cheers for Delco’s Birthday" weekend-long celebration of the county's birthday, and the fun begins Friday.
The highlight of Friday’s events takes place at the County Courthouse in Media, where new America250 banners will be publicly unveiled alongside remarks from County and America250PA leaders, a fife and drum band, plenty of flags, and red, white, and blue cupcakes for everyone.

The weekend not only honors Delco's 236th anniversary, but also the Delaware County Historical Society’s 130th anniversary, and the upcoming 250th birthday of the United States on July 4, 2026.

The weekend begins Friday at 11 a.m., with a Delaware County Historical Society open house.
From there, festivities extend into the weekend with Cheers for Delco’s Birthday Happy Hours at numerous bars/restaurants across the County on Friday evening, a Delco Downhill Derby in Media on Saturday, and finally the inaugural Delco 10 Miler on Sunday.

Friday
Courthouse Celebration — 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., Delaware County Courthouse, 201 W. Front St., Media
- The highlight of Friday’s events takes place at the Courthouse, where new America250 banners will be unveiled with remarks from County leaders, live music, a fife and drum band, plenty of flags, and red, white, and blue cupcakes for the crowd. Leaders will also introduce Delco Volunteers 250, a new initiative encouraging residents to contribute time and talent to the national semiquincentennial.
Delaware County Historical Society Open House — 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Delaware County Historical Society, 9 W. Front St., Media
- The weekend begins earlier in the day with the Delaware County Historical Society’s 130th Birthday Open House. Guests can view rarely seen treasures, including original William Penn deeds, John Morton papers, and Crozer family documents, while exploring the role of local history in shaping America.
DCHS 130th Anniversary Reception — 5 p.m., Delaware County Institute of Science, 11 Veterans Square, Media (ticketed event)
- DCHS continues its celebration with a ticketed evening reception featuring light fare and beverages, raising funds to support historical programs and community outreach.
Cheers for Delco’s Birthday Happy Hours — 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., locations across Delaware County
- From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., the celebration spreads across the county with Cheers for Delco’s Birthday Happy Hours at popular bars, restaurants, and wineries. Patrons can toast Delco while supporting history — up to 25 percent of proceeds from each location will be donated to DCHS and America250 programming. These funds will directly support free community and educational initiatives leading into 2026. Participating locations are:
- Media — Towne House and DiFabio’s Sky Bar
- Prospect Park — John Morton’s Tavern
- Ridley Park — Dolan’s Bar and R. Park Tavern
- Clifton Heights — Murray’s Bar & Grille
- Chadds Ford — Penns Woods Winery
- Swarthmore — Ship Bottom Brewery
- Havertown — Brick and Brew
Saturday
Delco Downhill Derby — Noon to 5 p.m., Edgmont Street in Media
- Saturday brings the debut of the Delco Downhill Derby, a one-of-a-kind kinetic sculpture race where teams design and pilot human-powered vehicles down Edgmont Street. Expect whimsical, creative, and Delco- inspired designs that showcase community spirit and ingenuity. Families and spectators are encouraged to line the course and cheer.
Sunday
Inaugural Delco 10 Miler — 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Rose Tree Park (start) and Subaru Park (finish)
- The weekend concludes with the first-ever Delco 10 Miler, a road race beginning in Rose Tree Park and ending at Subaru Park. Branded “Park to Pitch,” the 10-mile course showcases Delco’s neighborhoods, parks, and pride while raising funds for Delco Arts, County Parks & Recreation, and the HEADstrong Foundation. The race sold out quickly with 1,200 registered runners, and spectators are encouraged to come cheer along the route.
