Episcopal Academy Student Writes Award Winning Paper
Colleen Flynn, a senior at Episcopal Academy, was the District 2 winner in the CumLaude Paper Competition for 2011.

NEWTOWN SQUARE– senior Colleen Flynn of Rose Valley was the District 2 winner in the CumLaude Paper Competition for 2011 for her AP US History paper entitled “From Speakeasies to State Stores: Philadelphia, Pinchot, and the Post-Prohibition Order.”
According to the Society, the purpose of this competition is “to recognize and celebrate outstanding academic achievement by submitting a paper or other class assignment that gives evidence of superior scholarship and original thought.”
Each of the over 360 CumLaude Schools is invited to send in a copy of a single outstanding example of original work, either creative or research based, to be considered for recognition.

At the district and national levels, judging is done by the CumLaude Regents and Officers in a ‘double-blind’ process, with identification completely removed from submissions.
A grant of $500 is awarded to the author of one outstanding paper in each of the eight CumLaude districts. District 2 is comprised of 41 Chapters from New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

The CumLaude Society, founded in 1906, is an organization devoted to the recognition of superior scholarship while simultaneously striving to encourage qualities of justice and honor.
The Episcopal Academy Chapter was founded in 1952. The society consists of chapters located in the United States, Canada, England, France, Spain, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines.
