Police: Burglar Distracts Elderly Homeowner; Man Walks Into Home Looking For 'Dinner Party'
The following information has been provided by the Newtown Township Police Department and currently being investigated.
NEWTOWN SQUARE–On Wednesday, Sept. 19, the Newtown Police investigated a distraction burglary in the 100 block of Tyson Road. According to police, the elderly homeowner reported a white man in his twenties had suddenly appeared from her back yard and entered her enclosed porch and engaged her in conversation about making repairs to the chimney.
According to police, the homeowner requested a written estimate from the subject and he went outside. After a short time, the homeowner began to get suspicious and went to check on the subject. The homeowner found the rear door propped open and then located the man in her bedroom going through her pocketbook, according to police.
After the homeowner confronted the man, he fled the home and left the area in a newer model, light brown colored pick-up truck which had been parked in the driveway. The pick-up truck had a black tool box in the bed of the truck and some sort of writing on the passenger side of the truck, most likely a business name, said police.

On Tuesday, Sept. 18, a homeowner in the 100 block of Hunt Club Lane reported a white man, between the ages of 25-30 years old, clean cut, dirty blonde hair, wearing shorts and a polo type shirt entered her house and said he was looking for a “dinner party,” according to police. After telling the homeowner he had the wrong house, he left the area in a dark colored sedan or SUV type vehicle, possibly a Volkswagen, according to police.
Police are reminding residents to: look out for your neighbors, keep your doors locked and if you have an alarm system, use it. Lt. Chris Lunn states in the press release, Newtown Township is a safe community but in both incidents the subjects arrived and left the area in a car or truck. "Most crimes involve someone driving to an area other than where they live to commit their crimes," said Lunn.
