The township's basic functions should be efficient. For example, taxes should be collected in an orderly fashion and records kept appropriately. Residents crave transparency and connection, and engaged volunteer township leaders can give them what they need for a low cost using creativity and technology.
What are the biggest issues your constituents bring up when discussing life in the township?
The biggest issue is transparency and reliability. People want to be able to plug in and feel informed, and know what's going on in the township. They want to be confident that parks are taken care of and streets are safe so they can go about their busy lives, knowing that government is doing its job so that they can do theirs. As an engaged, common-sense candidate, I can deliver that transparency and reliability.
What should township leaders do to reduce crime?
The best step that we can take right now to reduce crime is to improve transparency. Residents deserve to have easy access to police reports so they know what's out there and what they can do to protect themselves.
What can be done to make streets safer for pedestrians, cyclists, e-scooter/bike riders, and motorists?
No one should be afraid to walk, bike, or drive in Marple Township. It is important for community members to be considerate of others when they travel. We should look out for each other, especially when piloting a bike, e-scooter, or car. For example, a distracted driver could hurt a cyclist or pedestrian severely, and so drivers must be extra careful for their safety and the safety of others. DUIs, road rage, and speeding are concerns for all road users. The police force must be vigilant in handling these issues when they occur.
What can township leaders do to foster additional small business growth in Marple Township?
Marple Township has a strong collection of small businesses that deserve our support. Township leaders should model and encourage shopping at small businesses. Leaders should ask for input from the owners and listen to what's most important to them. That way, we can find and publicize the win-win situations where residents and businesses of Marple and neighboring townships benefit each other.
