State Police: 1 Killed, 133 Injured in New Year's Crashes

Troopers made 277 arrests for driving under the influence, State Police said.

Pennsylvania State Police investigated 404 crashes during the New Year’s holiday, authorities announced this week.

Of those, 133 resulted in injuries. One person was killed. Forty-five of the crashes were alcohol-related, State Police said.

Troopers made 277 arrests for driving under the influence, State Police said. They also cited 5,634 people for speeding; 484 for failure to wear a seatbelt; and 85 for failure to properly restrain children in child safety seats.

State Police last year investigated 836 crashes that injured 146 and killed one.

The holiday period is defined as the time between Dec. 31 and Jan. 2. The data covers only incidents investigated by the State Police.
