Happy Columbus Day! Here's What Is Closed

Did Christopher Columbus really discover the "New World" on the second Monday of October?

The intrepid explorer is credited with discovering the "New World" on Oct. 12, 1492. But Americans will celebrate Columbus on Oct. 10 this year because, well, that is when the second Monday of the month falls.

Declared a federal holiday since 1937, Columbus Day celebrates Columbus' achievements and celebrates Italian-American heritage. 

Cities across the country will honor the day with parades and festivals.

In the Moon community, it will pretty much be in the neighborhood. Some places will be closed, though.

The remains open today and the meeting will be held at 7 p.m. tonight as ususual.

Allegheny County offices will be closed, along with courts.

Federal offices - understandably - will be closed because it is, after all, a federal holiday.
