Man Charged with Hit-and-Run Crash Waives Hearing

A Moon Township man with seriously injuring a teen in a hit-and-run crash on Moon Clinton Road waived his preliminary hearing Tuesday. 

Clifford Dilley, 76, of Wyndhurst Drive, is charged with felony accidents involving death or personal injury and reckless driving stemming from the Oct. 29  

Police said Dilley struck an unidentified 17-year-old girl as she walked home alongside Moon Clinton Road. Dilley told police he believed he hit a deer and continued home. 

Authorities found the girl lying unconcious along the roadway. She was flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital from the scene of the crash. Police said she was hospitalized in a physical rehabilitation unit in the months after the crash.  

Dilley appeared briefly Tuesday in Coraopolis District Court with an attorney. He next will appear in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas for a formal arraignment. 

Dilley came forward days after the October crash, telling police that he believed he struck a deer with his 2009 Chevrolet Silverado at about 9:30 p.m. while he was driving home from Appian Way Cafe & Lounge.

He said that a day later he heard about the hit-and-run crash on Moon Clinton Road from news reports and believed he might have been involved.
