New Pittsburgh Area-Area High School Rankings: See How Moon Fared

PITTSBURGH, PA — Eighteen Western Pennsylvania public high schools were ranked among the top 100 in the state in the 2023-24 Best High Schools released Tuesday by U.S. News & World Report.
Moon Area High School was one of them.
Families can use the annual rankings to compare schools at the national, state and local levels on factors such as academic performance, graduation college readiness, according to a news release. U.S. News reviewed 25,000 schools and ranked 17,680 of them.

In general, the highest-ranked schools had students who performed well on state assessment for math, reading and science, U.S. News said. They also performed strongly in meeting the needs of underserved students, including those who are Black, Hispanic or from low-income households. The schools had a breadth of curriculum offerings and high graduation rates, and their students performed well on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams.

1. Peters, Peters Township (7th state, 312th nationally).
2. Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12 (12th state, 517th nationally).
3. Mt. Lebanon, Mt. Lebanon: (15th state, 622nd nationally).
4. Upper St. Clair, Upper St. Clair: (17th state, 642nd nationally).
5. Fox Chapel, Fox Chapel: (22nd state, 762nd nationally).
6. Pine-Richland, Pine: (26th state, 863rd nationally).
7. Franklin Regional, Murrysville: (27th state, 962nd nationally).
8. Pittsburgh Science and Technology, Pittsburgh: (30th state, 999th nationally).
9. Quaker Valley, Leetsdale: (35th state, 1,167 nationally).
10. Mars Area, Mars: (38th state, 1,195th nationally).
11. North Allegheny, Wexford: (39th state, 1,214th nationally).
12: South Fayette, McDonald: (53rd state, 1,479th nationally).
13. Moon Area, Moon: (61st state, 1,676th nationally).
14. Thomas Jefferson, Jefferson Hills: (69th state, 1,837th nationally).
15. Penn-Trafford, Harrison City: (74th state, 1,970th nationally).
16. West Allegheny, Imperial: (75th state, 2006th nationally).
17. Taylor Allderdice, Pittsburgh: (82nd state, 2,133rd nationally).
18. Hempfield, Hempfield (93rd state, 2,479 nationally).
