Come and Tour Urban Ponics’ New Upstairs Farm in Warminster PA
Urban Ponics opens brand new indoor farm to the community
On March 2nd, the leaders of Urban Ponics held a reception to welcome the community to its new UPstairs Farm in Warminster PA where they have built an impressive sustainable indoor garden which is now growing beautiful non-GMO greens and herbs. This cutting edge non-profit is on a mission to improve our food system by developing programs that will provide people with access to nutrient-rich food year round while at the same time creating jobs and educating the community about the benefits of sustainable indoor farming.
The new location showcases a wonderful variety of basil, lettuce, bok choi, tomatoes, and peppers, all grown in either hydroponic or aquaponic gardens. Hydroponics uses nutrient rich water to continuously feed plants in stacked beds under grow lights. Aquaponics is a system where fish and plants work together to fertilize and sustain an ideal growing environment. Fish waste is converted by bacteria into plant food, and plants naturally filter and clean the water to return it back to the fishtank.
The indoor farm garden is the perfect educational field trip for school students and community groups, and with the bountiful harvest it will provide, Urban Ponics hopes to establish a CSA in the future so that people can pick up fresh herbs and greens directly.
