1K+ Coronavirus Cases Reported Friday In PA

Pennsylvania reported another 1,000+ COVID-19 cases Friday.

PENNSYLVANIA — The state added 1,032 additional positive cases of COVID-19 Friday, bringing its total to 99,478 since the start of the pandemic. In Allegheny County, there were 240 more cases reported Friday and 163 more in Philadelphia.

The state also reported 19 new deaths Friday, bringing the death toll to 6,992.

Philadelphia is now reporting more than 23,500 cases since the onset of the pandemic. Montgomery County has more than 9,000 cases, and Allegheny County has nearly 5,800.

“As the state has put in place new mitigation efforts to offset recent case increases, we must renew our commitment to protecting against COVID-19 by wearing a mask, practicing social distancing and following the requirements set forth in the orders for bars and restaurants, gatherings and telework,” Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said in a news release.

Across the nation, the virus continues to escalate in hot spots.

The United States shattered its single-day record for new cases Thursday with more than 75,600 confirmed new infections, according to a New York Times database. This was the 11th time in the past month the record was broken.

As of Friday morning, the U.S. was approaching 3.6 million confirmed cases and had surpassed 138,300 deaths, according to a Johns Hopkins University tally.
