PA Companies Get $20B In PPP Loans: See Who Got The Most

$20.7 billion in Paycheck Protection Program loans were distributed to Pennsylvania employers. See which companies got the most.

PENNSYLVANIA — The U.S. Small Business Administration and U.S. Treasury have released details about the country's massive Paycheck Protection Program that helped businesses affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

A total of $20.7 billion in loans from the program were distributed in Pennsylvania, protecting 1.8 million jobs, the SBA said in its most recent report. The loans will be forgiven if businesses keep employees on the payroll.

Nationwide, more than 4.9 million loans of more than $150,000 were made to businesses and nonprofit organizations. The total amount for approved loans over that amount was more than $521 billion.

Of the loans distributed in Pennsylvania, 26,095 were for more than $150,000. Two hundred and six Pennsylvania businesses received between $5 and $10 from the program.

  • $5 million to $10 million: 206 loans
  • $2 million to $5 million: 1,096 loans
  • $1 million to $2 million: 2,255 loans
  • $350,000 to $1 million: 8,059 loans
  • $150,000 to $350,000: 14,479 loans

Loans in Pennsylvania ran the gamut and included those to higher education institutions, religious schools, manufacturers, real estate companies, medical companies, environmental services companies, non-profits, and more.

Among the Pennsylvania businesses and nonprofits that received the highest loan amounts ($5 to 10 million) are:

  • Ewing Cole Inc, Philadelphia (jobs retained: 462)
  • Greater Philadelphia Health Action Incorporated, Philadelphia (jobs retained: 486)
  • Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh (jobs retained: 500)
  • Groundwater and Environmental Services, Exton (jobs retained: 387)
  • Hershey Creamery Company, Harrisburg (jobs retained: 500)
  • James D. Morrissey Inc, Philadelphia (jobs retained: 182)
  • Law School Admission Council, Newtown (jobs retained: n/a)
  • Mascaro Construction Company, Pittsburgh (jobs retained: 474)
  • Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia (jobs retained: 479)

The loans are made by lending institutions, including banks and credit unions and are guaranteed by the SBA. All PPP loans are subject to review by the SBA and all loans over $2 million are automatically reviewed by the SBA.
