29-Year-Old Woman Killed In 1-Car Crash In Wrightstown

The accident happened Thursday night when a vehicle left the roadway, crashed into a tree and caught on fire, according to police.

WRIGHTSTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — A 29-year-old woman was killed Thursday in a fiery one-car crash in Wrightstown Township.

The accident happened just after 9 p.m. in the 600 block of Swamp Road when a 1995 Jeep Cherokee traveling westbound went off the roadway, struck a tree, and burst into flames, said the Newtown Township Police.

Firefighters from the Lingohocken Fire Company and the Northampton Township Fire Department arrived on scene and immediately went into action, working to extricate the driver, who was still trapped in the driver's seat, and to extinguish the fire.

The driver, who suffered severe burns, was transported to St. Mary Medical Center by the Newtown Ambulance Squad where she was pronounced dead. Family notifications were made by law enforcement.

Swamp Road between Route 232 and Worthington Mill Road remained closed for an extended period while the vehicle was removed and the scene was investigated.
