Firefighters Knock Down Large Brush Fire In Washington Crossing
Using hose lines, tankers, and utility vehicles, the firefighters prevented the spread to several nearby buildings, including a preschool.

UPPER MAKEFIELD, PA — A brush fire prompted the evacuation of a nursery school, several homes and businesses in the village of Washington Crossing Thursday afternoon.
Police and fire personnel from Upper Makefield and surrounding communities responded to a large brush fire in Washington Crossing behind the Crossing Cooperative Nursery School and Seasons Garden Center.
As a precaution, officers evacuated the nursery school along with several homes and businesses. The children from the preschool were relocated to the Heritage Pharmacy, police said.

"All the children from the school have been reunited with their families and everyone is safe," police said. "We have no injuries to report."

In a 2:20 p.m. update, police reported that the fire had been extinguished and no homes or structures were damaged.
"We would like to thank the Washington Crossing Cooperative Nursery School, the businesses and the residents in this area for their cooperation," said police. "We would also like to thank the volunteers with the Upper Makefield Fire Company and surrounding departments who assisted in helping them contain the fire. As a team, we were able to ensure the safety of all and to limit the damage caused by the fire."
Upper Makefield was assisted on the call by Union Fire Company & Rescue Squad, New Hope Eagle Volunteer Fire Company, Yardley-Makefield Fire Company and the Upper Makefield Township Police Department.
