UPPER MAKEFIELD, PA — The Washington Crossing Bridge will be closed from late morning through early afternoon on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, for the reenactment of Washington Crossing the Delaware.

The exact time of the closure will be determined by the shutdown of George Washington Boulevard/Route 532 in Upper Makefield. The current estimated closure period is from approximately 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Motorists planning on using the bridge during those times on Thursday, Dec. 25, should make alternative plans, bridge commission officials said.

The closest river crossing points are the Scudder Falls (I-295) Toll Bridge, located 2.5 miles to the south with tolls being charged electronically through E-ZPass and Toll by Plate in the Pennsylvania-bound direction, and the New Hope-Lambertville Bridge, located seven miles to the north and free to cross in both direction. The closest non-tolled crossing to the south is the Calhoun Street Bridge between Trenton, N.J., and Morrisville, which is 6.3 miles downstream.

The bridge’s pedestrian walkway will remain open. Due to low river levels, the actual crossing of the river is unlikely, but all other activities will be taking place at scheduled. Christmas Day activities are free and open to the public.
