Bucks Co. Veteran To Be Given Final Salute At Washington Crossing Cemetery

Veterans and members of the public are invited to take part in a committal service at the cemetery on Thursday, June 26.

UPPER MAKEFIELD, PA — A Bucks County Vietnam veteran will be given the final salute during this week's Unaccompanied Veterans Service at Washington Crossing National Cemetery.

The Bucks County Coroner's office will be interring the remains of Edward C. Payne, U.S. Army SP4 (Vietnam Era), from Doylestown Borough, at the committal service.

During the ceremony, his name will be read aloud and the Pennsylvania Military Honors team will present a flag on behalf of the veteran. A rifle salute and live Taps will be provided. After the ceremony, the remains will be placed in his own niche in the Columbarium.

The ceremony takes place on Thursday, June 26, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown 18940.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend the ceremony, which is held to honor veterans who have passed with no family members to stand by their side.

All vehicles and motorcycles are invited to participate in a short escort from the Washington Crossing National Cemetery Administration Building to the Committal Shelter. Participants are asked to line up in the cortege lane at 2 p.m.
